SAN DIEGO - For the second time in the last week, No. 24 Sun Devil Men's Tennis (9-0) upset No. 10 San Diego, with Friday's 4-3 final score. After USD led 3-2 and had break leads on the final two courts, ASU battled to take court five. Then, senior Mathis Bondaz clinched the victory 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) after being down 2-5 in the final set.
The program-record season-opening win streak was pushed to nine matches with the win in San Diego on Friday. In 2024-25, the team did not see nine wins until March 16, and has hit that mark nearly seven weeks earlier this season.
Despite losing the doubles point for the third-straight match, the Sun Devils battled from behind to secure the eventual 4-3 win. Reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, junior Jelani Sarr picked up his team-leading seventh singles win of the season with another straight-sets win.
