TEMPE – Sun Devil Women’s Tennis hits the road to compete in two matches at Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, as part of ITA Kickoff Weekend. The team will open against TCU on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 12 p.m. MST, before facing either Michigan State or No. 2 Texas A&M on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 12 p.m. MST.
The matches will not be streamed, however, live stats can be tracked on IonCourt and StatBroadcast. ITA Kickoff Weekend is part of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships where 16 teams qualify to compete for the national indoor championship. ASU would need to win both matches this weekend for a spot at Indoor Championships.
Junior Emilija Tverijonaite is 4-0 overall and 1-0 in dual matches to start the spring, while Freshman Zlata Bartanusz is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in dual matches, Junior Karsyn Evans is 3-2 overall and 2-0 in dual matches and Graduate Vivian Ovrootsky is 2-0 in dual matches. In doubles, Tverijonaite and Ovrootsky are 3-0 in dual matches this spring.
ASU will face TCU in a non-conference matchup before facing the Horned Frogs again on Feb. 27 in Fort Worth, Texas, in their conference opener.
Last time out
In their opening weekend, Women’s Tennis won two of their three matches. Last Saturday, they beat both UC Davis and Grand Canyon, 4-0, before falling to No. 19 USC, 4-3, on Sunday.
Tverijonaite beat USC’s 16th-ranked Jana Hossam, 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday for her second-ranked win of the season. In doubles, Tverijonaite and Ovrootsky netted their first-ranked win, defeating No. 51 Jade Hossam/Krisha Mahendran, 6-4.

Arizona State (2-1)
- Emilija Tverijonaite earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors following her 3-0 performance in doubles and her ranked win in singles against USC. Tverijonaite joins junior Sara Svetac as the second Sun Devil to earn a Big 12 weekly honor this season.
- Tverijonaite is 4-0 to begin her spring season and 1-0 in dual matches. She’s three wins away from reaching 30 career dual wins in singles and doubles play.
- Freshman Zlata Bartanusz won her first two singles matches in straight sets against UC Davis and GCU from the No. 4 position.
- Freshman Sarang Lim won her first collegiate dual match against Kaia Wolfe (UC Davis) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
- Graduate Vivian Ovrootsky is 2-0 from the No. 3 spot in singles to begin the dual season.
- Ovrootsky got her first-ranked win of the season, defeating No. 95 Imogen Haddad, 6-3, 7-5.
- With two wins last weekend, head coach Jamea Jackson reached 50 career wins as a head coach, moving to 50-25 all-time as head coach between ASU and Princeton.
- The Sun Devils are 4-0 all-time against TCU, including a 4-0 conference win over the Horned Frogs on April 4, 2025, last season.
- Saturday’s matchup against TCU is the second time both teams have squared off during ITA Kickoff Weekend, where the Sun Devils won 4-1 on Jan. 27, 2018, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

TCU (0-0)
- TCU will open its season against Arizona State on Saturday. The Horned Frogs went 13-11 last year and 7-6 in Big 12 play in 2025.
- The Horned Frogs fell in the second round against Kansas, 4-2, at the Big 12 Tennis Championships.
- It’s the second consecutive season TCU will travel to College Station to play in the ITA Kickoff Event.
No. 2 Texas A&M (4-0)
- The reigning SEC Champions and NCAA Finalists, Texas A&M, is ranked No. 2 in the country in the latest ITA poll.
- The Aggies have not given up a point, winning four straight matches by a 7-0 score.
- Texas A&M has won four straight SEC Championships and won the national championship in 2024. They have won 30 matches in three of the last four seasons.
- The Aggies have two players in the end-of-fall singles rankings: Mia Kupres is No. 34, and Daria Smetannikov is ranked No. 83.
- In doubles, Smetannikov/Kupres are ranked No. 57, and Violeta Martinez/Anna Perelman are ranked No. 76 in the end-of-fall ITA rankings.
Michigan State (0-0)
- Michigan State has yet to play a match this season and will open against No. 2 Texas A&M on Saturday.
- The Spartans went 13-12 last season and 5-8 in the Big Ten.
- In doubles, Matilde Morais/Ellie Blackford are ranked No. 82 following a 4-0 fall season.
- In singles, Amara Brahmbhatt is ranked No. 102 following a 4-4 record last fall.
- In the event that ASU and Michigan State win their opening matches, Sunday’s meeting would be the first between the two schools in program history.
