IRVING - On Tuesday, the Big 12 announced that Sun Devil Men’s Tennis sophomore Niels Villard was named Player of the Week following three singles and four doubles wins in four dual matches last week. ASU’s 5-0 start to the season is the best mark since the program’s reinstatement.
After picking up three singles wins last week from the third through fifth position, Villard has a team-leading four singles wins and is more than halfway to hitting his 2024-25 singles win mark (7) at Florida.
Four doubles wins in every Sun Devil match this week led him to a team-best 5-0 doubles record. Villard has already more than doubled his 2024-25 doubles win total (2) just five matches into the season.
Villard earned the team’s first weekly honor this season, and is just the second weekly honor in the Big 12 overall for ASU after Bor Artnak’s last season.
