IRVING, TX – Junior Emilija Tverijonaite has been named Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after beating the No. 16-ranked Jana Hossam, 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday for her first dual win of the year, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
This marks the first Big 12 honor for the team this season and Tverijonaite’s first Big 12 weekly nod in her career.
No. 42 Tverijonaite recorded her second top-20 singles victory of the season to move to 17-5 in singles play this year. She leads the team in singles wins with a 4-0 singles record and a 3-1 doubles record with her doubles partner, graduate Vivian Ovrootsky. Their most recent win was this past weekend versus USC’s No. 51 Jade Hossam/Krisha Mahendran, 6-4, for their first-ranked doubles win of the season.
Additionally, the pair clinched the doubles point on Saturday with a 6-1 win over Grand Canyon’s Isabella Crossman/Dania Deaifi.
The Sun Devils will head to Texas to face TCU in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on January 24th, set for 12 p.m. MST, then face Texas A&M and Michigan State the following day at 12 p.m. MST.
