TEMPE – Closing out the first weekend of the 2026 season, Sun Devil Women’s Tennis dropped its match against No. 19 USC, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center.
Junior Emilija Tverijonaite notched her second top-20 singles win of the season, defeating No. 16 Jada Hossam in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 from the No.1 spot in the lineup.
Graduate Vivian Ovrootsky won her second match of the weekend in straight sets, defeating No. 95 Imogen Haddad, 6-3, 7-5 from the No. 3 spot. In doubles, the pair moved to 3-0 with a 6-4 win defeating No. 51 Jade Hossam/Krisha Mehendran, 6-4.
The Sun Devils will head to College Station, Texas to participate in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Jan. 24, against TCU at George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at 12 p.m. MST. In doubles, The No. 2 pair Ovrootsky and Tverijonaite secured the only doubles win for ASU, 6-4, to move to 3-0 in doubles. The No. 3 freshman pair of Sarang Lim/Zlata Bartanusz fell, 6-0, and the No. 1 pair of Lily Taylor and Karsyn Evans, dropped their match, 6-2.
In singles play, No. 42 Emilija Tverijonaite got her first win of the dual season with a 6-1, 6-1, win over No. 16 Hossam to give the Sun Devils their first point. The Trojans got their second point from the No. 5 spot, but Ovrootsky got her first ranked win of the season, defeating No. 95 Haddad, 6-3, 7-5, to tie the match at two.
On court No. 2, sophomore Lily Taylor fell in a hard-fought match, 7-5, 6-4, to No. 12 Emma Charney, which gave the Trojans a 3-2 lead, and then the Trojans clinched the match on court four.
Both teams decided to play through, pushing junior Karsyn Evans to win in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, to move her to 2-0 this season and give the Sun Devils their third point of the match.
