TEMPE – In its final home meet of the season, No. 2/18 Sun Devil Swim and Dive will host five Big 12 teams for the Big 12 West Showdown, welcoming Arizona, BYU, Kansas and Utah starting at 10 a.m. MST Friday and concluding at 11 a.m. MST Saturday at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center with live results on Meet Mobile.
Houston will be hosting the Big 12 East Showdown this weekend featuring West Virginia, Iowa State, TCU and Cincinnati, giving teams a preview of how they stack up against conference foes ahead of the Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships, which are slated for February 24-28 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The meet is split into three sessions which will begin on Friday at 10 a.m., featuring the 200 medley relay, 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and the 200 free relay. The night session will start at 5 p.m., highlighting the 100 back, 200 breast, 500 free, 50 free and the 400 medley relay.
Saturday’s session will start at 10 a.m. with the B and C finals of the 1650 free, then shift to the 200 IM, followed by the 100 free, 200 fly, 200 back, the A final of the 1650 free, then finish with the 400 free relay.
Diving for the three sessions will feature women’s 3m and men’s 1m Friday morning, and then the team diving event starting at 4 p.m. On Saturday, women’s 1m and men’s 3m will take place at 11 a.m.
The Sun Devil men continue to have the fastest times in the country in the 50 free (Ilya Kharun, 18.40), the 200 free (Remi Rabiani, 1:31.23), the 200 back (JT Ewing, 1:39.00), and the 100 fly (Kharun, 43.38). ASU boasts the fastest 200 free relay at 1:13.72 and the 400 medley relay at 2:59.87.
In their dual meet victory over Grand Canyon, junior Grace Lindberg swam personal bests in the 200 free (1:45.43) and in the 400 IM (4:14.26) to earn Big 12 Women’s Swimmer of the Week. Freshman Albane Cachot made her Sun Devil debut and won three individual events against GCU. She swam the eighth fastest 50 free in program history in 22.43, then won the 100 free in 49.11 and the 200 free in 1:46.38.
In the latest CSCAA rankings, Arizona State is the top-ranked Big 12 team in both men’s and women’s polls. The men are ranked No. 2 in the nation and the women have held steady at No. 18 in the country. Arizona is ranked No. 17 on the men’s side and No. 24 in women’s swimming, as both Arizona schools are the only Big 12 teams ranked.
