TEMPE — Sun Devil Hockey goaltenders Connor Hasley and Samuel Urban have been named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List as announced by the Hockey Commissioners Association on Wednesday afternoon.
Arizona State is one of three schools (Sacred Heart, Dartmouth) to have multiple goaltenders nominated.
Hasley, a senior out of North Tonawanda, New York, and Urban, a freshman out of Dolne Kockovce, Slovakia, are among 29 goalies nationwide on the initial watch list. Hasley is one of eight goaltenders to be on the watch list in back-to-back seasons, while Urban, who is one of two representatives from Slovakia, is one of 11 freshmen nominated.
This season, Hasley has posted an 8-7-0 record while boasting a 2.59 GAA and a .920 save percentage. The senior has appeared in 94 career games between his time at ASU and Bentley and carries a 2.33 career GAA, .920 career SV% and an overall career record of 45-39-5. Among active goaltenders, Hasley has the most shutouts with 14 and is tied for the sixth most wins in the country.
Urban is fresh off his first career shutout, compiling 37 saves in a 1-0 win over Miami on Jan. 10. Urban’s 37 saves set the mark for the most saves in a first career shutout for a Sun Devil goaltender. Urban holds a 4-4-1 record, with a .917 SV% and a 3.02 GAA through nine games this season.
Since 2014, the Mike Richter Award has been given annually to the top goalie in NCAA Division I men’s hockey. A committee of voters will pare the list down to approximately a dozen semifinalists within the next three weeks, and then ultimately choose a winner from three finalists who will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four.
