AMES, Iowa – Sun Devil Softball struggled at the plate over the final five innings and fell to Iowa State 4-3 on Saturday in the three-game series finale.
Arizona State trailed 2-0 when they came to the plate in the second. Samantha Swan singled home ASU's first run of the game and then two more scored on a single from Takyla Davis. The lead was short lived as Iowa State scored twice in the bottom of the second to take a 4-3 lead.
Pitching then took over the rest of the afternoon. ASU managed just one hit after the second inning – a double from Asheigh Mejia in the third inning – and they finished 3-for-14 with runners on base.
With the offense struggling, Kenzie Brown did her part to keep the Sun Devils in the game. She held the home side to one hit and three total base runners with nine strikeouts during her 4.1 innings of relief.
