TEMPE – A long day of action at the 20th Kajikawa Classic on Saturday forced Sun Devil Softball to sit around until 9:15 before facing Miami (OH) for a second consecutive day. ASU starters fast before Miami stormed back for a 12-4 win to give the Sun Devils their first defeat of the season.
Kelsey Hall gave the Sun Devils an early lead with an RBI double in the first inning. They had a chance to tack on more runs with the bases loaded in the second, but ASU couldn't capitalize. The top of the third inning saw the RedHawks vault in front 4-1, but Takyla Davis responded in the bottom half with a two-run blast. It was the first home run in her collegiate career.
Miami then stretched its lead to 10-3 in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, Grace Molitor made it a 10-4 game with a solo shot to left field. Like Davis earlier in the game, it was Molitor's first collegiate home run.
The RedHawks hit a two-run home run in the seventh to reach the game's final score of 12-4.
Kenzie Brown was a standout in the circle for the Sun Devils. She recorded eight strikeouts and allowed only two hits and one earned run in 3.1 innings of work.
