Sun Devil Hockey alum Ty Muchison makes NHL Debut for Philadelphia Flyers

PHILADELPHIA – Former Sun Devil Hockey defenseman Ty Murchison became the fourth Sun Devil to make their National Hockey League debut Tuesday night for the Philadelphia Flyers in Philadelphia against the San Jose Sharks.
Murchison, a fifth-round selection in the 2021 draft by the Flyers was promoted to the 23-man active roster Saturday/Sunday. He logged 14:56 of ice time with three hits in his debut, contributing to a 4-1 win against the Sharks. Murchison signed a two-year, entry-level contract on March 26, 2025.
Murchison has appeared in 21 games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the Flyers' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, and has added 4 points (1G, 3A) and a team-best +9 in the plus/minus category this season. The former Sun Devil played in four games for the Phantoms following the conclusion of ASU’s 2024-25 season, tallying two points (1G, 1A) last March.
A native of Corona, California. Murchison played in 145 games - the second-most games by a Sun Devil - where he scored nine goals and added 14 assists for 23 points. Murichson ranks first in program history with 243 blocks in his collegiate career.
The former alternate captain joins former Sun Devils, Joey Daccord (Seattle Kraken) and Josh Doan (Buffalo Sabres) to play in the NHL this season. Daccord, boasts 17 starts with a 7-6-4 record for the Kraken this season and has 56 career wins between the pipes. Doan, has scored a career-best eight goals and tallied 11 assists for 19 points in 28 games for the Sabres. Former Sun Devil defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk played four games for the San Jose Sharks in 2021.
