Women’s Tennis sees success at Thunderbird Invitational over the weekend

TEMPE –  Sun Devil Women's Tennis saw success over the weekend hosting its annual Thunderbird Invitational throughout the weekend. Emilija Tverijonaite and Vivian Ovrootsky both went unbeaten in singles and doubles play over the three days of play. Sara Svetac, Zlata Bartanusz and Lily Taylor also saw action during the week.

Friday, October 31, 2025
On the first day of the Thunderbird invitational, both Sun Devil double’s teams were victorious in the morning session. Sara Svetac and Lily Taylor won a tight doubles match 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 8-6.

Graduate Vivian Ovrootsky and Emilija Tverijonaite won 6-2 in their doubles match. In singles play, Svetac got her second win of the day in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, over Natalie Stasny of SMU. Ovrootsky handled her opponent winning 6-3, 6-0 in less than an hour in singles. 

Tverijonaite won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 over Gabby Gregg of San Diego on Friday, then freshman Zlata Bartanusz won 6-4, 6-0 over Andrea Noguera of NAU to cap off singles play.

Saturday, November 1, 2025
Ovrootsky and Tverijonaite went to 2-0 over the weekend by winning their doubles match 6-3. Lily Taylor and Zlata Bartanusz won their doubles match 6-4 in the morning session. Svetac and Taylor battled the San Diego pair but fell in a tight set, 7-5.

For the second day in a row, Tverijonaite cruised to a 6-4, 6-1, straight-sets win to secure her 10th victory this fall. Ovrootsky won her second singles match of the weekend over Arizona’s Martyna Ostrzygalo, 6-1, 6-3 for the Sun Devils. Svetac battled in three sets vilgently, but fell in a tight deciding set. 

Zlata Bartanusz’s was the last match at Whiteman for the day, after dropping the second set 6-1, she battled in a second-set tiebreak, winning seven of eight points to force a third set. The freshman would then win 6-4 in the third set to cap off the day of matches.
