Lucius extends point streak to five games in Hockey’s 5-2 (EN) defeat at Miami
OXFORD, Ohio – Sun Devil Hockey (3-5-0, 1-1-0 NCHC) fell short of the weekend sweep in game two against Miami after a 5-2 (EN) loss on Saturday night at the Goggin Ice Center in Oxford.
Senior forward Cruz Lucius netted his team-leading seventh goal of the season with a first period goal to extend his point streak to now five games.
Freshman Ben Kevan found the back of the net in the second period to give Arizona State a 2-1 lead, but three unanswered goals from Miami before the eventual empty netter proved to be the difference.
The Sun Devils will head home to Mullett Arena as their conference home opener awaits with a two-game set against Colorado College beginning on Friday, Nov. 7 with puck drop slated for 7:00 P.M. MST.

PERIOD BY PERIOD BREAKDOWN
First Period
Similar to Friday, Miami found the net in the first two minutes of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Then, halfway through the period, Lucius netted his seventh goal of the year to even the score at one. Miami was penalized with a five-minute major but Arizona State was unable to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the opening period. The Sun Devils managed to outshoot the Red Hawks 13-10 in the period, with the game tied at one going into the intermission.
Second Period
Miami had a man-advantage to start the period but play quickly returned to full strength for the first half of the middle frame. An interference penalty for the Red Hawks put the Sun Devils on the power play, where freshman Ben Kevan gave ASU a 2-1 lead with 10:41 in the period on the power play. Waldron and Smolen were credited with the assists. However, Miami scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
Third Period
The Sun Devils battled for the majority of the period, putting 13 shots on net compared to the Red Hawks nine shots but were unable to cut into the opposition’s two-goal lead. Late in regulation, Miami would score an empty net goal to seal the game and the win, 5-2.
