Big 12 Championship next up for Cross Country

TEMPE – Sun Devil Cross Country has closed the page on the regular season as the team will make its way to Lawrence, Kansas, to compete in the first of three postseason races, beginning with the 2025 Big 12 Championship. The race will be hosted by the University of Kansas at Rim Rock Farm on Friday, Oct. 31, starting at 8:00 a.m. MST/10:00 a.m. CST.

7:40 a.m. MST/9:40 a.m. CST: First gun fired (indicating 20 minutes to start)
7:50 a.m./9:50 a.m. Second gun fired (men report to start line)
8:00 a.m./10:00 a.m.: Men’s 8K championship race
8:40 a.m./10:40 a.m.: First gun fired (indicating 20 minutes to start)
8:50 a.m./10:50 a.m.: Second gun fired (women report to start line)
9:00 a.m./11:00 a.m.: Women’s 6K championship race
10:00 a.m./12:00 p.m.: Awards

TUNE IN
The race will be live-streamed via ESPN+ and will begin right at the second gun. This will be the Sun Devils' first televised event in the 2025 season. 

Back to the Big 12s
Five members of the Sun Devils squad will make their second appearances at the Big 12 Championship. Lemerian Lemashon, Dennis Rono, Zach Alabanese, Mia Chavez and Ashley Tarasenko all competed in the 2024 Big 12 Championship, where the women’s side placed 9th, while the men took 11th in team scores.

Dynamic duos
Rono and freshman Boston Walseth will look to continue building momentum for the men. The duo have been the top-two finishers for the Sun Devils in every race this season. Rono has been atop the scoreboard for ASU in two of three meets, and Walseth was the top team finisher in his NCAA debut at the George Kyte Classic. 

Chavez has continued to impress as the season’s progressed, recording lower times in back-to-back outings (23:03.4, 21:23.4) to turn in a pair of team-bests. Kayla Case has been steady from the jump, also finishing in the top two for the team in all three meets this season.

At the helm
The Adam Meyer era is officially underway as he was named the Cross Country coach this offseason. Following a standout career as a Sun Devil from 2017 to 2022, Meyer now embarks on his journey in guiding the Sun Devil Cross Country squad. He brings excitement to lead the program into a new era, with a vision of building success for years to come.
