Cross Country heads west for Highlander Invitational

TEMPE – Sun Devil Cross Country will make its way to Riverside, California to take part in the annual Highlander Invitational hosted by UC Riverside. This will be the fifth straight year where Arizona State is set to compete in the Highlander. The race will be the final of three regular season events for the team with the Big 12 championships set for Friday, Oct. 31st.

JADE RUNNER
Sophomore Jade Allen is set to make her cross country debut on Saturday morning. Allen, a Colorado native, began the 2025 season as a member of the Sun Devil Triathlon team, but was added to the active cross country squad shortly after the team competed in the Dave Murray Invitational. In her triathlon tenure, Allen placed 36th with a time of 35:18 in the Southern Hills Super Sprint in addition to competing in the Desert’s Edge Collegiate Cup.  

LAST TIME OUT
Three weeks ago, ASU competed in the Dave Murray Invitational down in Tucson and had strong outings from Dennis Rono and Mia Chavez. Rono and Chavez led the way for the men’s and women’s respective sides, as Rono posted a 25:00.8 in the men’s 8k run, while Chavez clocked in at 23:03.4 in the women’s 6k run to lead the pack. 

Chavez, Boston Walseth  and Kayla Case have all finished in the top-20 in their respective events in both meets this season. The trio will aim to continue building momentum in search of another top-20 finish.

The Adam Meyer era is officially underway as he was named the Cross Country coach this offseason. Following a standout career as a Sun Devil from 2017 to 2022, Meyer now embarks on his journey in guiding the Sun Devil Cross Country squad. He brings excitement to lead the program into a new era, with a vision of building success for years to come.
