TEMPE - No. 13 Sun Devils Water Polo (2-0) outscored their opponents 38-19 in their first two games to start off the ASU Invitational. Defeating Cal Lutheran 19-6 in the first game and outscoring No. 23 San Diego State 19-13 in the last match of the day. 

Freshman Itziar Almeda and Karly Frangieh had an outstanding collegiate debut in game one, each finishing the first match with a hat trick. Junior Millie Quin was a factor in today's duel matchup, finishing with seven goals and a staggering four goals in one quarter. 

Game Notables:
Game 1: No. 13 Arizona State 19, Cal Lutheran 6
In the first quarter, the Sun Devils originally trailed 4-3 but eventually were able to take advantage of the fast break and took a 6-4 lead. Zoey Frangieh, Sophie Shorter-Robinson, and Millie Quin paved the way for the Sun Devils, each scoring a pair of goals.

The defense shined in the second quarter, as the Sun Devils allowed no goals. Itziar Almeda, Molly Glad, Zoey Frangieh and Sophie Shorter-Robinson all netted goals for the Sun Devils. On top of that, Los Gatos native Karly Frangieh found the net for a pair of goals. Arizona State took a promising 12-4 lead heading into halftime. 

The Sun Devils matched the Kingsmen in the second half for netted goals, with the Sun Devils leading 14-6. Itziar Almeda found the net for her second career collegiate goal. Freshman Ani Pamp also found the back net for her first career collegiate goal. 

Arizona State finished the match shutting out Cal Lutheran in the fourth quarter. Kat Featherstone, Kinga Hnatyszyn and Gabby Gaetano all found the net for their first goal of the season. The Sun Devils took game one 19-6. 

Game 2: No. 13 Arizona State 19, No. 23 SDSU 13
The Sun Devils matched goals with the Aztecs until Ani Pamp snuck one past the goalie, giving Arizona State a 5-4 lead to end the first quarter. Sophie Shorter-Robinson, Itziar Almeda, Molly Glad and Millie Quin also were able to provide points for the Sun Devils.

Millie Quin was the factor in quarter two, netting all four goals for the Sun Devils. Arizona State headed into halftime with a 9-7 lead over San Diego State. 

In the third quarter, Zoey Frangieh and Sophie Shorter-Robinson each found the back of the net for a pair of goals. Jasmijn Dikmans got aggressive in the middle and was able to sneak one past the goalie. On top of that, freshman Layla Smith recorded her first career collegiate goal to give the Sun Devils a 15-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Arizona State closed out the fourth quarter with a 19-13 victory over San Diego State. Sophie Shorter-Robinson, Zoey Frangieh, and Itzier Almeda all found the back of the net to start off the fourth quarter. Freshman goalie Keri Glad chucked one from one net to the other for an incredible goal to finish off the match.

The Sun Devils return to action tomorrow at 10:15 a.m. MST against #15 UC Davis at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
