The Sun Devil men’s golf team is seven shots back of the lead heading into Saturday’s second round at the 19th Olympia Fields Country Club’s Fighting Illini Invitational held at Olympia Fields Country Club. ASU shot 6-over 286, seven shots behind leader Texas Tech. Eleven of the teams are within nine shots of the top spot.
Junior Fifa Laopakdee shot 2-under 68 and is tied for second to lead the Sun Devils, as he is just one shot behind leader Adam Bresnu of Texas Tech.
Last year Laopakdee won the 2025 Thunderbird Collegiate (Apr. 11-12) at Papago Golf Club) with a 12-under 201 (66-67-68) and shot 8-under 205 (68-69-68) and tied for the top spot but lost in a playoff at the solid 14-team Cabo Collegiate in early March at the Twin Dolphin Golf Club. He also tied for first at the Papago Individual (Sept. 16-17, 2024) with an 8-under 205 (69-68-68).
