TEMPE — Sun Devil Hockey announced the addition of winger Jack Beck to its 2025-26 roster after the NCAA ruled on his eligibility. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native spent the last season playing 40 professional games between the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL.

Beck was drafted 168th overall (6th round) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames. He has since waived his draft rights and is a free agent. The 22-year-old left-handed winger joins ASU after a point-per-game performance in his first year of professional hockey.

According to the NCAA Eligibility Center, Beck will have three seasons of eligibility to play in five years. As part of the NCAA's delayed enrollment rules, Beck is not eligible to compete in the first six games of the 2025-26 season.

Beck lost one season of eligibility as a penalty under the NCAA delayed enrollment rules. If an athlete plays seven or more games in another league once delayed enrollment has begun, one season of eligibility is removed. The games played by Beck in the AHL and ECHL, dating from his 21st birthday on April 12, 2024, through April 11, 2025, cost Jack a season of eligibility. The six-game suspension for 2025-26 comes into play to address the six games played by Beck from April 12, 2025 (his 22nd birthday) through his initial enrollment at Arizona State University in September 2025.

We couldn't be more thrilled that Jack Beck is a Sun Devil. He comes from an unbelievable family and we know how high of character that he has and he makes our team instantly better just by being in our room. The icing on the cake is he is one hell of a player and he's really going to help us on the ice and throughout our second season in the NCHC.

Under NCAA delayed enrollment rules, prospective hockey student-athletes must enroll in college full-time, at any four or two-year college, between high school graduation and until they reach their 21st birthday without penalty. Once a hockey student-athlete turns 21 and has still not enrolled full-time in college, the delayed enrollment penalties kick in. For every calendar year after the 21st birthday and continued competition in leagues other than the NCAA, the athlete loses a season of competition at the NCAA Division I level. The 21st birthday cutoff for delayed enrollment in the NCAA is unique to hockey. All other sports have a one-year gap rule that forces prospects to enroll full-time at a collegiate institution at the next opportunity after the one-year gap after high school graduation is up.

In 2024-25, Beck played four games in the AHL for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and tallied one goal and two assists. In the same season, he was also a point-per-game skater for the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), with eight goals and 28 assists for 36 total points in 36 games played.

Before his professional career, Beck played in the OHL for the Soo Greyhounds and Ottawa 67's. In his single season with Soo in 2023-24, Beck notched 85 points from 27 goals and 58 assists in only 67 games played. The Greyhounds reached the playoffs, where Beck stood out as a point-per-game player with four points in four postseason appearances.

He is expected to skate in his first NCAA competition during the team's NCHC opener at Miami on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
