Triathlon boasts seven newcomers in 2025

TEMPE– Sun Devil Triathlon welcomes seven new faces to the team for the 2025-26 season. Head Coach Cliff English has announced that the incoming class is composed of four freshmen and three transfers, representing five different countries for the Maroon & Gold. 

Joining the seven-time National Champions is Alex Campbell, Sonja De Koning, Hope Frost, Tyler Kovak, Cara Macdonald, Emma Rysavkova, and Luna Sraka.

Alex Campbell /// Kingston, Ontario, Canada /// Junior

A transfer from Denver University, Campbell competed in eight races for DU and has a handful of accolades under her belt including: 2023 All-American Honorable Mention, 2023 East All-Region Team, 2023 CTCA Division I Scholar All-American First Team, and 2024 CTCA Division I Scholar All-American Honorable Mention. She had three top-5 finishes for DU and boasted two wins in her collegiate career. 

Sonja De Koning /// Netherlands /// Freshman

The freshman brings plenty of race experience to Tempe, having competed in 43 races across the triathlon circuit seeing six podium finishes prior to ASU. She qualified for the World Championships and European Championships in 2024. 

Hope Frost /// Manassas, Virginia /// Graduate Student

With one year of eligibility remaining, Frost joins the Sun Devils in Tempe after previously serving as the team captain of cross country at Duke. She was a very accomplished triathlete prior to focusing on running. Head Coach Cliff English discussed the talent she brings to ASU, “We are excited to have her join the team next year and looking forward to the experience she will bring to the team.”

Tyler Kovak /// Atlanta, Georgia /// Freshman 

A signee from last November, Kovak will join the team from Atlanta, Georgia. She raced in the 2024 USA Triathlon Junior National Championships and earned an eighth-place finish, the best of her young career. Since that finish, she’s competed in three Americas Triathlon Cups, and seen one top-20 finish.

Cara Macdonald /// Ottawa, Ontario, Canada /// Redshirt Senior

Macdonald spent her undergrad career at Queens, and in 2025 she recorded a Top-10 finish at Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon, a 2nd place finish at East Regional Qualifier, and a top 20 finish at DI Triathlon National Championships. 

Emma Rsyavkova /// Czech Republic /// Freshman

Rysavkova comes to Tempe with a career-best 2022 Junior Elite World Championships finish of 15th in Hamburg, Germany. Head Coach Cliff English praised the newcomer, “She brings a lot of racing experience to the team from Europe and we certainly expect her to perform at a high level immediately and help the team with our depth in competitions.”

Luna Sraka /// Slovenia /// Freshman

Sraka was a Junior National Champion and is one of four freshmen to join the squad this fall. English emphasized the skill she brings to the team, “She brings a lot of racing experience to the team from Europe and we look forward to seeing her continue to develop, perform and help bring a lot of depth to the team!”
