CEDAR FALLS, Ia. – Starting the 2025 season on the right foot, No. 13 Sun Devil Volleyball swept Northern Iowa (25-23, 25-16, 25-15) behind a career-high in kills from junior Noemie Glover and a strong defensive effort both at the net and in the backrow. 

 

Notable Stats

  • Many made their Sun Devil debuts in the match to make up all but one of the starting lineup: Faith Frame, Noemie Glover, Sydney Henry, Ella Lomigora, Colby Neal and Tatum Parrott. Bailey Miller is the lone returner in the starting lineup.
  • Junior opposite Noemie Glover earned a career high 17 kills in her ASU debut to lead all players, surpassing her previous best of 15 earned while at Oregon. Glover hit .371 and added two blocks as well.
  • Senior setter Sydney Henry earned a double-double in her ASU debut with 30 assists and 10 digs, adding three blocks and two kills as well. This was her 36th double-double of her career.
  • At libero, sophomore Faith Frame had a match-high 23 digs in the win. It is her seventh match in her career with 20-plus digs. 
  • The Sun Devils outblocked the Panthers 12-0 in the win. Middles Lomigora and Neal led the effort with six and five, respectively. Three of Lomigora’s blocks were solo efforts. They also added to the offensive effort, with Neal earning seven kills on nine attempts (.778) and Lomigora going 5 for 8 (.625).
  • Nearing a double-double was outside hitter Tatum Parrott with eight kills and nine digs. She also notched two aces and a block.
  • In her first ball touch of her collegiate career, freshman Ella Lewis, at second libero, served an ace. She also had three digs.
  • Another making her collegiate debut was redshirt freshman Kiylah Presley, notching three kills on four attempts. She also had a block.
  • The third and final playing NCAA volleyball for the first time today was freshman libero Maila Ribeiro, subbing in for a couple of plays in the second set.

 

Set One: ASU 25, UNI 21
UNI started with a 3-0 lead, but ASU responded with three in a row to tie it up. The Sun Devils started to pull away and really created distance with four-straight points behind two aces from Parrott to go up 14-7. The teams traded points until the Panthers got within two, down 19-17. After a kill on the slide from Colby Neal got the sideout, UNI made it a one-point set at 20-19. It was a battle down the stretch, but a kill from Lomigora sealed the first set win, 25-23.  

Set Two: ASU 25, UNI 16
The second frame saw close competition until Miller served ASU on a big 8-0 run to go up 18-9, which included back-to-back blocks for Lomigora and a pair of aces from Miller. Making her collegiate debut, Presley notched a kill to get it to set point, 24-14. ASU took the set on a service error, 25-16.

Set Three: ASU 25, UNI 15
The momentum kept up in the third set, with Miller’s serve staying strong to power the run. Lomigora also added a solo block in that run, capping off a 4-0 run to make it 5-1. UNI rallied to tie it at 10-10. After some back and forth, ASU put together four in a row to make it a 15-12 lead, capped off by a kill from Parrott heading into the media timeout. Kills from Glover and Parrott kept the run going, making it six-straight points. The set ended on a 7-0 Sun Devil run that saw three blocks for the team and two kills from Presley.

The Sun Devils will participate in the State Farm Volleyball Showcase on Sunday and Monday in Pittsburgh at PPG Arena, first taking on No. 2 Penn State before challenging the host team No. 3 Pitt. Sunday’s match against the Nittany Lions will be at 2 p.m. MST/5 p.m. EDT on FOX and Monday’s against the Panthers will start at 4:30 p.m. MST/7:30 p.m. EDT on FS1.
