Cross Country set to begin 2025 season at George Kyte Classic

TEMPE – Sun Devil Cross Country will open the 2025 campaign under first-year coach Adam Meyer by competing in the George Kyte Classic this Saturday, August 30, at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, Arizona. 

While hosted by national powerhouse Northern Arizona, ASU will be among a number of local colleges in competition. The men will begin the action by racing on a 4.5 mile course beginning at 1:30 p.m. MST, while the women will race 2.5 miles at 2:30 p.m. MST.

The Sun Devils will return to familiar ground, as it's now the third-straight season where the squad will open the season by competing at the George Kyte Classic, dating back to 2023. 

A plethora of familiar faces will lace ‘em up as ASU returns over half of its 2024 roster. The team is headlined by third-year Sun Devil Mia Chavez and graduate senior Dayton Carlson among the rest of 14 returners and six newcomers.

Coach Meyer and his team will have quite the early-season test, as the meet host NAU women’s team has been named No.10 nationally, while the men’s squad comes in at No. 14 in the USTFCCCA's Preseason National Cross Country Coaches' Poll.

The George Kyte Classic will mark the first of three regular season meets for Sun Devil Cross Country this fall. After competing in Flagstaff, the team will head down south to compete in the Dave Murray Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson on September 27.

Sun Devil Cross Country is set to officially begin the Adam Meyer era as he was named the Cross Country Coach this offseason. Meyer will make his debut as head coach this upcoming season, following a standout career as a Sun Devil from 2017 to 2022. He brings excitement to lead the program into a new era, with a vision of building success for years to come.
