TEMPE – In a battle between the Maroon and Gold, Sun Devil Volleyball saw the intrasquad go to five sets, with Gold taking the match.

The crowd of 1,043 cheered the team on throughout the match, keeping the energy high in the arena throughout the night as Sun Devil Nation was introduced to a partially new 2025 roster. Following the match, fans were able to interact with the team.

Both teams had three with double-digit kills and three with double-digit digs. Two Sun Devils had more than 20 kills and three notched more than 20 digs. The setting duties were split between redshirt sophomore Brynn Covell for Maroon and senior Sydney Henry for Gold.

Arizona State Head Coach JJ Van Niel
On the defensive performance:
“I think it's probably the most physical team we've had since I've been here just as far as size and height. So I think we can touch a lot of balls when blocking. We got a lot of scrappy defenders, so it's fun. It's fun volleyball.”

On how the freshmen and transfers have meshed in with the team:
“Everyone's done a great job. We've built a nice culture where I think we can welcome in kids and get it pretty comfortable pretty quickly, so that's been fun to see. They've all done a good job.”

Junior Middle Blocker Ella Lomigora
On where she feels the team is at and playing in front of a crowd again
“It’s amazing to have everybody back in the gym. We're all working hard. We finished off with some tough double days. Lots of work, time, and commitment to growing our culture and our standards. Getting to work with each other and figure out these connections and relationships has been great. We had this opportunity to put it out on the court in front of a good crowd. It was amazing to see everything slowly start to get put together.”
