PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - Sun Devil Men's Golf senior Michael Mjaaseth has earned a spot in the Top-10 of the PGA TOUR U Preseason rankings.

PGA TOUR University debuted their list of seniors identified as future professionals based on a variety of factors, including ranking and performance. Michael Mjaaseth is listed at No. 8 in the preseason rankings, putting him firmly in contention for a coveted PGA or Korn Ferry Tour membership.

Mjaaseth is coming off an outstanding junior season which culminated in him earning All-American honors. He was a big reason why Arizona State spent the entire season ranked inside the Top-5 and helped them to a first place finish in the stroke play portion of the 2025 NCAA Championship. Mjaaseth is considered one of the top returning male collegiate golfers in the nation.

Currently the 23rd-ranked male amateur in the World (4th in Europe), Mjaaseth has been a steady presence in the Sun Devil lineup each of his first three seasons. He has played in 36 tournaments (110 rounds and 7,845 strokes) and has a 71.30 stroke average to go along with 43 rounds in the 60s entering his final year. He also enjoyed success in International competition during the offseason, including a recent triumph at the 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup. Mjaaseth went 2-0-2 in Match Play at Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina in June, helping lead the International team to a 35-25 victory, their first on foreign soil since 2020.

The Olso, Norway native put together a fantastic 2024-25 campaign that caught the attention of PGA TOUR U and many other international golf entities. Mjaaseth tied for the Papago Individual title in the fall and finished tied for third (Big 12 Championship), fourth (Maridoe Intercollegiate), tied for fifth (Cabo Collegiate), eighth (Thunderbird Collegiate) and tied for ninth at the NCAA Bremerton Regional during a run of five straight top-10 finishes.

Mjaaseth wasted no time making his presence felt in Tempe. He earned a spot on the GCAA All-Freshman five-man national team in 2022-23 and posted a Sun Devil all-time freshman best stroke average of 70.72 and was Golfstat's fifth-ranked freshmen. He played in 39 rounds in freshman season, firing 16 in the 60s and 23 of those at par or better. He fired 66 or better on three occasions, including a 4-under card in the third round of the 2023 National Championships, pacing ASU in their rise from T21 after day one to a match play top eight finish after four days. For his efforts, he was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, the sixth Sun Devil to win the award since its inception in 1999 and the fourth consecutive ASU men's golfer to achieve the honor.

Past PGA TOUR U Sun Devils
Preston Summerhays, Mjaaseth's former teammate, finished seventh in the 2024-25 PGA TOUR U Final Rankings. That earned him Korn Ferry Tour membership for the 2026 season. Fellow teammate Josele Ballester ended his senior year third in the PGA TOUR U final standings and has already launched a professional career on the LIV Golf Tour.

How the rankings work
In partnership with the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), PGA TOUR University ranks players based on the last two years of their collegiate careers. Eligible tournaments include NCAA Division I men’s team competitions, official PGA TOUR tournaments and select DP World Tour events. The ranking period for the class of 2026 began week 23/2024 and concludes June 1, 2026, following the final round of stroke play at the 2026 NCAA Championship.

Path to the pros
The No. 1 player in the final PGA TOUR University Ranking next June will earn PGA TOUR membership, while players Nos. 2-10 will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for 2026 and players Nos. 11-25 will earn exempt membership for PGA TOUR Americas Segment II in 2026. Finishers Nos. 2-5 will be exempt into Final Stage of Q-School presented by Korn Ferry, while Nos. 6-25 will be exempt into Second Stage.

In the first five years of PGA TOUR University, 104 players from 47 schools have earned performance benefits, and 25 alumni have combined for 39 professional victories.
