TUCSON, Ariz. – Sun Devil Track and Field was down south this past weekend for the Desert Heat Classic and put together a strong showing, earning 12 top-seven finishes throughout the meet across multiple events.
Junior Jonathan Estrada led the way in the men's 3000m, clocking an 8:43.08 to secure a third-place finish. He maintained a strong pace throughout the race and closed with a powerful final lap to clinch his spot on the podium.
The Sun Devils also saw several other top-five finishes. Freshman Malik Franklin and Mateo Medina placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the highly competitive men's 400m, with times separated by just five-thousandths of a second. Freshman Evaline Chepkoech posted a solid fourth-place showing in the women's 800m at 2:08.02, while freshman Zach Albanese rounded out the weekend with a fifth-place finish in the men's 3000m.
