Berkeley, Calif. – No. 14 Water Polo (17-7, 1-4 MPSF) dropped their Saturday afternoon match against No. 5 California (16-3, 3-2 MPSF) at Spieker Aquatic Center, 18-14. The Sun Devils return home before heading back to California for their last regular season match against USC.
Itziar Almeda and Millie Quin both had dominant performances in the pool, scoring eight and six points respectively. They were the two highest scoring players of the match. Almeda scored one goal in the first, two goals in the second, and three goals in the third for six total goals and also tacked on two assists. Quin had three goals and three assists for six total points.
After a long battle, the Sun Devils made a run late in the third quarter and closed the lead to just one goal; however, the Bears were able to pull away and notch three goals compared to ASU's one in the fourth, ending the game.

Sophie Shorter-Robinson got the goal scoring started quickly as she netted her first goal 49 seconds into the first quarter; however, the lead was quickly lost as Cal notched three goals in a row. Zoe Frangieh was able to break the run with her lone goal of the game and Itziar Almeda found the tiebreaker soon after with 2:09 left to go. ASU scored once more, courtesy of Millie Quin, while Cal scored three more, entering the second down 4-6.
Cal started the scoring in the second but Molly Glad followed suit with one of her own. Each team then traded goals with Itziar Almeda netting two for ASU, but Cal was able to pull ahead and ended the quarter 7-12.
