SEATTLE -- Sun Devil Water Polo was awarded All-MPSF awards honoring junior attacker Millie Quin and freshman attacker Itziar Almeda. Quin received the Delfina All-MPSF Second Team Honors and Almeda earned her first collegiate honors with an All-MPSF Honorable Mention and All-MPSF Newcomer Team. Their consistent performance has lifted the Sun Devils to their second best season record in the last eight years after going 23-8 last year. Together, they accounted for 148 of the team's 370 goals (40 percent) and 62 of its 129 assists–almost half the total.
Itziar Almeda was recognized for her freshman year performance with two honors recognitions. Although this was her first year of college play, Almeda is no stranger to shining on a big stage. She has represented her home country of Spain in the three years prior to her college-season debut. She has participated for the Spanish National team at the World Aquatics Women's Aquatic World Championships and the European Championships for the U17 team winning gold and silver medals respectively. Her well-seasoned experience has led to an impressive break-out season for the freshman who leads the team with 38 assists and is second in points with 102 on the season.
Millie continued to impress for the offensive front amassing her second straight Delfina All-MPSF Second Team award since transferring to ASU. Her scoring ability has been a proponent of ASU's 17-8 regular-season record, with 21 multiple-scoring games and 7 games with 5+ goals. In their first meeting against the then No. 17 ranked Indiana, Quin delivered a stand out performance in a 14-12 OT win with six goals, two assists, and five steals on the day. She has been in the top two of goal-scorers in both of her seasons at Arizona State and Currently leads the team with 84 goals going into the MPSF Conference Tournament.
