California Road Trip Begins for No. 14 Water PoloCalifornia Road Trip Begins for No. 14 Water Polo
TEMPE – No. 14 Water Polo (17-6, 1-3 MPSF) heads to Berkeley to battle No. 5 California (15-3, 2-2 MPSF) this Saturday at 12 p.m. at Spieker Aquatic Center. Live stats will be available on 6-8 sports and streaming will be on Overnght. 

The match up against Cal is the first of the final two regular season conference games for the Maroon and Gold. The Sun Devils will be back in California the following weekend to take on the tied for No.1 Trojans. 

OPPONENT OUTLOOK
No. 5 Cal (15-3, 2-2 MPSF)
  • Against similar opponents– SJSU, UCSD, and LBSU– Cal holds a 6-0 record, while ASU is 0-3. 
  • Two of the Bears' three losses have come from conference foes USC and UCLA with a goal differential of at least four. Their third loss was an upset that came from Hawaii. 
  • Last weekend, Cal fought off the then No. 15 Michigan Wolverines and came out victorious, 14-10. 
SUN DEVIL OUTLOOK
No. 14 Arizona State (17-6, 1-3 MPSF)
  • With a win against Cal, the Sun Devils would earn their first season win in an opposing team's home pool setting.
  • Millie Quin leads the Sun Devil offense with 75 goals along with 18 assists. She has also earned 29 steals and 11 drawn exclusions. 
  • The Sun Devils hold a 7-3 record in their last 10 games, outscoring their opponents 148-118 over that stretch.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, ASU had their last home meet of the season and honored seniors Marie Rudasics and Molly Ostrowski. They hosted SJSU and ultimately fell in the last minute, 13-12. Itziar Almeda was a bright spot on the weekend as she notched five goals and an assist for a six point match, continuing her point scoring streak to 13 games. The Sun Devils won all four of their sprints, marking the first time since February against Salem. 

HISTORY VS. THE BEARS (8-30)
The last time that the two programs went head to head was in March of 2024 when Cal came out victorious with a 10-8 win. The all-time record between the two schools is in favor of the Bears with 30 wins compared to the Sun Devils eight. The most recent win by ASU was in 2021 when the Sun Devils were able to defeat the Bears in the first round of the MPSF conference tournament, 12-8.

MPSF STAT LEADERS
The MPSF stats leader board is littered with Maroon and Gold as five individuals rank among fellow conference members. Millie Quin sits in third for goals and points with 75 and 93 respectively. She also has 29 steals which puts her in fifth place for steals. Itziar Almeda has 55 goals (seventh place) and 31 assists (seventh place) for a combined 86 points (sixth place). In net, Keri Glad has saved 114 shots, landing her in sixth place for saves. She also boasts the third highest save percentage of 60.96%. Sanne Keijzer sits in eighth for her 71 saves. Senior Marie Rudasics has the second highest save percentage in the conference at 66.04%.
