LOS ANGELES – No. 6 seed Arizona State (18-9, 2-6 MPSF) defeated No. 7 seed Indiana (17-12, 0-8 MPSF) 19-11 in a dominant fashion at Spieker Aquatics Center this afternoon. The Sun Devils move on to face No. 5 seed San Jose State in the match up at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning to determine fifth place.

The Sun Devils never trailed in today's match. They were tied for 13 seconds in the first quarter but quickly put distance between them and the Hoosiers. It was a dominant performance from there on out with notable performances by Itziar Almeda and Ani Pamp who had six and five point performances, respectively. 

The match also saw the first multi-goal games for two Sun Devils. Ashley Ferguson and Kat Featherstone netted two goals apiece. Goaltender Keri Glad was also able to nab two points with two assists in net.

GAME NOTABLES
  • There were 11 different goal scorers for the Sun Devils. Karly Frangieh, Ashley Ferguson, Millie Quin, Sophie Shorter-Robinson, Itziar Almeda, Kat Featherstone, Alison Kokorowski, Layla Smith, Molly Glad, Kinga Knatyszyn, and Ani Pamp were all able to dent the twine in today's game. 
  • Ashley Ferguson and Kat Featherstone both logged their first multi-goal games of the season. Both sophomores netted two goals. 
  • Freshman Ani Pamp was able to secure her first career hat trick. She scored all three goals back-to-back-to-back in the third quarter with no interruptions to make it a natural hat trick. She also tacked on two assists for a total five point game. 
  • Today's game was the season high for points scored in a game (32) and assists registered in a game (13). 
  • Goalkeeper Keri Glad had a career high two points while in net today. She notched assists on two of Ani Pamp's goals. 
  • Itziar Almeda had the match high of six points (2G, 4A) which is her seventh game with six plus points this season. She also needs seven goals to break the all-time freshman scoring record and six assists to break the all-time freshman assist record. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ashley Ferguson opened the scoring 55 seconds into the game off the assist from Ani Pamp. Indiana was able to tie it up soon after, but the Sun Devils took the lead once more and never lost it for the remainder of the game. Itziar Almeda, Karly Frangieh, and Molly Glad were all also able to net goals in the first quarter for a 5-2 lead heading into the second quarter. 

After a penalty on Indiana, Itziar Almeda netted the penalty goal to open the second quarter. Sophie Shorter-Robinson scored the next two ASU goals to enter the half up, 8-5.

Similar to the first half, Ashley Ferguson opened the scoring 22 seconds into the third quarter. Sophie Shorter-Robinson rounded out the hat trick with the assist from Itziar Almeda. Quin was the next Sun Devil scorer with 6:31 remaining in the quarter. Ani Pamp then went on to score a natural hat trick over the course of three minutes and 12 seconds. Alison Kokorowski tacked on one more goal for insurance in the third quarter to give the Sun Devils a seven goal lead.

Kat Featherstone netted her first goal of the game to extend the lead to double to start the fourth quarter. She was able to score another goal less than three minutes later. Layla Smith and Kinga Hnatyszyn each scored to finalize the victory for the Maroon and Gold, 19-11. 

2025 MPSF TOURNAMENT
The 2025 MPSF Women's Water Polo Championship Tournament will be hosted by UCLA at Spieker Aquatics Center, April 25-27. UCLA is the defending MPSF and NCAA Champion. The MPSF has captured 28 national championships in women's water polo.
