Lubbock, Texas – Sara Svetac won her second straight three-set match, extending her winning streak to six Friday evening in Lubbock, Texas as Sun Devil Women's Tennis (12-8, 7-5 Big 12) battled Texas Tech (18-2, 11-1 Big 12) to the brink, dropping the match 4-2 to the Red Raiders.
The team will aim to end the regular season on a high note against Colorado on Sunday in Boulder set for 1 p.m AZT.
Patricija Spaka won the first point for the Sun Devils in straight sets by winning her fourth tiebreaker of the season to cap off her singles match. She made quick work in the first set winning 6-1. The win marks her 61st career singles win and moving her into a tie for 35th in program history.
Sara Svetac won her second straight three-set match, outlasting Avelina Sayfetdinova 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to tie the Red Raiders at two-all. The win put her at 12 singles wins for the spring which is a team best and moves her to 7-1 in conference play. Emilija Tverijonaite battled in another three-set match but was unable to come back from a set down.
The Red Raiders clinched the match on court four in a hard-fought three-set match by Lily Taylor. Karin Altori was in a third-set tiebreak when the match was called.
Texas Tech won the doubles point winning on courts one and two, however Nupbay and Tverijonatite were leading their matches on court three 5-4 before the doubles point was clinched.
