EL PASO, Texas – Sun Devil Softball swept a doubleheader at UTEP on Wednesday at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex, Arizona State secured an 8-0 run-rule win in the opener before taking the nightcap 5-2.
ASU scored five runs in the first inning of the first game and never looked back. Yannixa Acuna tripled home the first run of the night, and then Kelsey Hall singled her home to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, Ayden Allen hit her first home run of the season to make it 4-0 before an AJ Murphy sacrifice fly capped the scoring.
Allen picked up her third RBI of the game with a sac fly in the second inning. ASU reached the run-rule total with an RBI from Acuna and a sac fly from Ashleigh Mejia in the sixth.
Kenzie Brown made the scoring hold up by holding the Miners to three hits in the complete game shutout. She struck out 12 and didn't walk any for her 15th win of the season.
The Sun Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two on an RBI single from Mejia and a Hall RBI groundout. UTEP scored twice in the third to tie the game.
ASU took advantage of two UTEP errors in the fourth inning to score a run. Mejia put the finishing touches on the win with a two-run double in the fifth.
Meika Lauppe worked around 11 hits allowed by recording five strikeouts in securing her sixth win of the season.

The Sun Devils now travel to Salt Lake City for a three-game series with Utah on Friday-Sunday.

- Brown recorded her 200th strikeout of the season in the opener, becoming the 19th pitcher in program history do so.
- She is also the first pitcher in the Big 12 to reach 200 strikeouts this season.
- Allen's three RBIs in the first game marked her fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
- Mejia had an RBI in each game to give her one in three straight and four of five. Three of those she had multiple RBIs.
- Ho-Ching recorded a hit in both games to give her a hit in 10 of the team's last 11 games.
- ASU had two triples in game one to have multiple triples in a game for the first time this season.
