TEMPE – The No. T-7 Sun Devils (17-6, 1-3 MPSF) came up short on Senior Day following No. 18 San Jose State University's (12-10, 1-3 MPSF) game-winning shot, falling 13-12. Arizona State finishes the season at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center with a 9-2 home record.

Freshman Itziar Almeda took charge by notching five goals for the Sun Devils, willing ASU down three goals entering the fourth quarter. However, the Sun Devils were unable to mount a comeback when San Jose State netted a goal with 34 seconds left in the final quarter.

Before the match, the program honored three seniors: Lara Kiss, Marie Rudasics, and Molly Ostrowski. Rudasics and Ostrowski are a part of the class of 2025 and have both spent all four years at Arizona State.

GAME NOTABLES
  • Seniors Marie Rudasics and Molly Ostrowski were honored before the match.
  • Alison Kokorowski, Millie Quin, Ani Pamp, and Hannah McClaskey all won their sprints, marking the first time that the Sun Devils have won all four sprints since the match with Salem on Feb. 15.
  • Itziar Almeda matched her single-game career high in goals (5). She has scored at least one goal in 11 straight matches.
  • Almeda's three-goal fourth quarter is the most she's scored in a single quarter this season.
  • Millie Quin extended her point streak to 14 straight games totaling 65 points (54G, 11A).
  • Freshman Ani Pamp extended her four-game scoring streak, finding the back of the net twice today.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Millie Quin scored the opening goal of the match to give the Sun Devils the early lead. However, good defense from the Spartans turned into an offensive flurry as they scored three goals back. Molly Glad was the next to find the back of the net, scoring two goals in the final two minutes. Her game-tying goal came with three seconds left in the first quarter as the score read 3-3 after one.

The Sun Devils retook the lead 4-3 on a penalty shot by Itziar Almeda on the first possession of the second quarter. San Jose State responded once again though, scoring three straight to take a 6-4 advantage into halftime.

The Sun Devils got back on track quickly to start the second half. Goals by Quin and Sophie Shorter-Robinson evened things up within the first minute of the third quarter. Although Almeda notched her third goal of the game, the Spartans continued to find the answer on offense. With just one quarter remaining, SJSU led 10-7.

Trailing by three in the final eight minutes of the match, ASU's attempt to fight back fell just short. Five fourth quarter goals from Almeda and Ani Pamp evened the score at 12-12 with two minutes left of play, but a late goal by the Spartans closed it out as San Jose State won 13-12.
