TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil women's basketball team will play its first Big 12 Championship contest on Wednesday (5:30 p.m. CST / 4:30 p.m. MST / ESPN+ / KDUS AM 1060) when it faces Cincinnati in the third of four first round games at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
The Sun Devils (No. 15 seed / 9-21, 3-15 Pac-12), who closed out the regular season with a 71-59 loss to Arizona on Saturday, will be taking on Cincinnati (No. 10 seed / 15-13, 7-11 Big 12) for the second time this season. The two programs met for the first time on the hardwood on Jan. 25 in a contest won by the Bearcats 73-66 in Tempe. Jalyn Brown led ASU with 25 points in a game that was decided in the final two minutes
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the second round where it will face Iowa State (No. 7 seed / 21-10, 12-6 Big 12) on Thursday (5:30 p.m. CST/4:30 p.m. MST). In the only meeting of the season, Iowa State came out on top 90-83. Down by as many as 20, the Sun Devils kept pushing forward, eventually getting the Cyclones' lead down to as few as three points with 13 seconds remaining in the game. Brown scored 14 of her game high-tying 20 points in the second half to help ASU climb its way back into the game.
The 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship will feature a new format, including all 16 teams, starting Wednesday, March 5 through Sunday, March 9/Monday, March 10. The Championship returns to Kansas City's T-Mobile Center for the second consecutive season.
The top four finishing teams in the league's regular season standings receive a double bye into the quarterfinals while teams that finish the year fifth through eighth will receive one bye into the second round.
The Championship game will take place Sunday, March 9 at 4 p.m. CT on ESPN unless BYU advances to the final which would move the title game to Monday, March 10.
