ORLANDO, Fla. – Sun Devil Softball took advantage of its scoring opportunities and used the pitching of Kenzie Brown to secure a 7-4 win at UCF on Sunday to clinch the weekend series.
Arizona State put the first run on the board in the third inning when an error from UCF allowed Tiare Ho-Ching to score. ASU added to its lead with four runs in the fourth inning. AJ Murphy drove home the first two in the frame with a double to left-center, and then Kelsey Hall punched a ball into right to score two more runs.
Ayden Allen and Samantha Swan singled to start the ASU fifth inning before moving up on a sacrifice from Murphy. Grace Molitor – as a pinch runner for Allen – made her way home on another UCF throwing error and then Takyla Davis drove in Swan with a groundout for a 7-0 lead.
UCF got on the board with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Kenzie Brown worked out of any more damage with a pair of strikeouts. Brown would close out the win by stranding runners on base in the UCF sixth and seventh innings.
