TEMPE – No. 11 Sun Devil Water Polo (9-3, 0-1 MPSF) fell 12-8 against fellow conference foe No. 3 UCLA (7-1, 1-0 MPSF) on Sunday afternoon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. It was the first MPSF game for Arizona State this season.
GAME NOTABLES
Both teams were kept scoreless in the early going, and Keri Glad made some nice saves for the Sun Devils. ASU found the icebreaker when Itziar Almeda set up Millie Quin's 31st goal of the season. With one minute left in the first quarter, UCLA tied the game at one. However, the Sun Devils were awarded a penalty shot with two seconds to go, and Quin came through. This gave Arizona State a 2-1 advantage heading into the second quarter.
The Bruins leveled the score again early in the second frame, but Zoe Frangieh quickly grabbed the lead back for the Sun Devils. After UCLA tied the game at three, ASU scored two-straight goals from Karly Frangieh and Sophie Shorter-Robinson to snag a 5-3 lead. The Bruins then scored three goals in a row to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, UCLA increased its lead to 9-5 with three more goals. Kat Featherstone scored for the Sun Devils to cut the Bruins lead to three, but UCLA eventually got its four-goal advantage back. The Bruins took a 10-6 lead into the final frame.
The fourth quarter saw the two teams trade goals and ASU fought to the very end. Millie Quin completed a hat trick and Ani Pamp scored the final goal of the contest. When the dust settled, UCLA won the game 12-8.

Sun Devil Water Polo will return to action at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on February 15-16 for the Cross Conference Invitational. Arizona State will compete against Salem, Long Island, Cal State Fullerton and Iona.

- This marks the second time this season that Karly and Zoe Frangieh have both scored in the same game. The first time was when the pair of sisters each scored three goals against Cal Lutheran on January 18.
- Millie Quin's hat trick increased her team-leading goal total to 33 on the season. It was the seventh time this season that Quin had scored at least three goals in a game.
- Itziar Almeda's two assists increased her team-leading assist total to 20 on the season. It was her sixth multi-assist game of the season.
