PHOENIX - Sun Devil Baseball is off and running, now with two weeks under its belt. Arizona State bounced back from a tough Friday night loss by turning in back-to-back wins over Oral Roberts to secure the weekend series and improve their record to 6-1.
Junior third baseman Nu'u Contrades was recently named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week following his efforts against Oral Roberts. Contrades posted a .385 average to go along with five hits, three home runs, five RBIs and six runs scored.
Aggressiveness on the basepaths has helped catapult ASU to a hot start and piling runs on the board thus far. The Sun Devils went 17-for-17 on stolen bases for the weekend against ORU - including matching a school record with 10 on Friday, Feb. 21 (L, 7-8). To put that in perspective, ASU stole 53 bases ALL season a year ago, recording 32 percent of that tally in three games alone in the weekend series against ORU.
Looking ahead, the Sun Devils will travel to Los Angeles as they renew a longtime rivalry with fellow former Pac-12 member, the UCLA Bruins. ASU heads into the series coming in at 36-30 against UCLA since the 1999 season. This will be the first meeting between the programs since they both left the Pac-12 this past season. First pitch Tuesday night is slated for 6 p.m. MST, where Wednesday has been rescheduled for a 2 p.m. MST start.
ASU will then return home to Phoenix Municipal Stadium where a three-game weekend series against Minnesota awaits. This will be the first meeting since 1994 between the schools with the Sun Devils coming in at 5-1 all-time. The series is set to begin with a 6:30 p.m. MST first pitch on Friday, Feb. 28.
The games against UCLA will be streaming on B1G+ and available through the radio on KDUS AM 1060 for Tuesday's game, where Wednesdays will be on 1440 AM
All games against Minnesota will be streamed on ESPN+ and over the airwaves on KDUS AM 1060.
