SAN DIEGO– Sun Devil Lacrosse's (3-1) undefeated run to open the season came to a halt after a 21-12 loss to Denver (2-2) in San Diego on Friday. Despite ASU scoring five of the first seven goals in the first frame, two scoring runs by the Pioneers totaling 14 goals was the difference in the loss.
ASU stays on the west coast to take on former Pac-12 foe USC on Monday, February 24. The game is slated to start at 2 p.m. AZT and can be viewed on Big 10+.
How it Happened:
Teagan Ng and Lydia Oldknow combined to score three goals to open the game before DU managed to get one of their own with 4:26 remaining in the frame. ASU tacked on two more goals while DU added just one and the Sun Devils led 5-2 after one.
Six straight goals to open the second quarter for the Pioneers put them ahead 8-5, and ASU never saw the lead again in the game. Two goals for ASU along with a last-second free position goal for Denver closed out the second quarter with ASU trailing 9-7.
ASU tacked on three goals to DU's four in the third quarter and it was a 13-10 game headed into the final quarter.
Bella Ingrao and Ng netted two quick goals to start the fourth to cut the deficit to one, but Denver closed out the game with the next eight goals and pulled away with the 21-12 victory.

- Senior goalie Katie Vahle tied her career-high save mark with 16 against the Pioneers. She reached this mark twice in 2014 against Penn State and Colorado, both games road games for ASU.
- With four goals against Denver, Lydia Oldknow extended her scoring streak to 23 games, dating back to the 2024 season opener.
- Freshman goalie Regan Spichiger saw her second appearance in net for ASU this season after replacing Vahle in net with 7:00 in the 4th quarter.
- The Sun Devils went just 4-13 on free position goals. Bella Ingrao and Teagan Ng each went 2-3 on their free position tries.
