TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 24 Sun Devil Men's Tennis (3-3) couldn't pull out the win in a tight 4-3 loss to No. 25 Pepperdine (5-2) at the Whiteman Tennis Center on Thursday night. The Maroon & Gold have an opportunity to bounce back at home after a quick turnaround for a doubleheader against NAU (9 a.m. MST) and DePaul (4 p.m. MST) tomorrow, Friday February 7.
The Sun Devils caught the Waves early to secure the doubles point with wins on court one and two. Bor Artnak and Matic Dimic made quick work of Edward and Hugh Winter, winning 6-1. Tanner Povey and Daniel Phillips then stunned the #51 duo of Maxi Homberg and Linus Carlsson Halldin with a 6-3 victory, moving to 4-0 on the season as a pair.
Arizona State and Pepperdine went back and forth in singles matchplay. Roi Ginat won comfortably 6-2, 6-4 over David Fix on court six to give ASU a 2-1 advantage. Bor Artnak then extended the lead with a gritty 7-6(6), 6-4 victory over Edward Winter on court one. However, the Devils could not hang on to the lead as the Waves came back to steal the victory 4-3.
The Maroon & Gold have an opportunity to bounce back on Friday with a doubleheader against NAU and DePaul at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. MST at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
