LA JOLLA, Calif. – T7 Sun Devil Water Polo is on the road again as they head to La Jolla for the Triton Invitational hosted by No.14 UC San Diego. Arizona State plays the Tritons in the first game of the tournament on Friday Jan. 31 at 5:00 p.m. MST, then will play either No. 1 UCLA or Concordia in the second round on Saturday Feb. 1. A bracket system will determine who they play following those matches on Saturday and Sunday.

SUN DEVIL OUTLOOK
Arizona State (6-1, 0-0)

Arizona State went 2-1 in the Hawaii Invitational, picking up wins over Biola and then No. 10 LMU before falling to No. 5 Hawaii. The Sun Devils outscored their opponents 38-30 over the weekend. Freshman Itziar Almeda picked up nine points on Saturday, continuing to lead the team in points (31) and assists (14). Freshman Kinga Hnatyszyn contributed with six points during the weekend (4G, 2A) and sophomore Allison Kokorowski picked up the fifth multi-point game of her career, and her second this season, against Hawaii.
FRESHMAN PHENOM
MPSF Newcomer of the Week, Itziar Almeda had an 11-point weekend (8G, 3A) at the Rainbow Invitational and had at least two goals in every game. She leads the team in points and assists and is tied for second in goals scored. It's nothing new that Almeda makes waves wherever she goes, last fall at the World Aquatics Women's U18 World Championships, Almeda took home gold, notching 16 goals throughout the tournament to help solidify the win for Spain.

- The Triton Invitational marks the third tournament in a row for Arizona State, and their second on the road.
- Arizona State has been outshooting their opponents 104-67 through seven games this season.
UC San Diego (3-3, 0-0)
- UC San Diego went 2-0 at the Lancer Joust last weekend, picking up a ranked win over then No. 17 San Jose State. They also beat the Spartans the weekend before.
- All three of the Tritons' losses have come against ranked teams, with losses to Stanford, California, and Fresno State.
- The Sun Devils are 14-1 all-time against the Tritons, with the most recent meeting between the two teams coming in 2024 when ASU won 9-5.
