TEMPE – Sun Devil softball fell in the series opener to No. 7 UCLA, 4-2 Friday night at Farrington Stadium.
Arizona State (19-28, 3-19 Pac-12) got within two runs after Alesia Denby smashed a two-run home run in the fourth inning, making it 4-2 in UCLA's (32-10, 15-4 Pac-12) favor. But the Sun Devils could not rally, only mustering two hits for the game.
The Bruins opened the game by scoring the game's first four runs and took an early 4-0 advantage, but Denby's 10th long ball of the year cut the lead in half. The Sun Devils could not incorporate any base-running opportunities, only managing a walk in the contest.
The Sun Devils look to even the series on Saturday with first pitch slated to be at 5 p.m. AZT and coverage seen on Pac-12 Network. The Senior Day celebration will occur after the game celebrating the team's nine seniors.
