TEMPE – Riding a two-game winning streak, Sun Devil Lacrosse (5-5, 1-1 Pac-12) dropped their conference home opener 16-7 on Saturday against No. 17 USC (8-3, 2-0). The Trojans built a first-half lead that was too much for ASU to overcome.

Despite the defeat, the Sun Devils had standout performances from their bench. Sophomore Jordyn Behar was the star of the game, tallying three points from two goals and one assist after taking the field in the second quarter. Graduate Katie Haley scored moments after getting substituted into the game in the first half. 

How it Happened:
The Sun Devils had a defensive-heavy first quarter, with USC putting three goals in the net. ASU had three free position opportunities but was unsuccessful in converting.

The Sun Devils got their first goal of the game halfway through the second quarter. Behar scored her first collegiate goal to make the score 5-1. Graduate transfer Katie Haley tallied another goal for the Sun Devils, putting the game score at 7-2. 

The Sun Devils had a hot start to the second half, with Behar scoring her second goal just a minute into the third quarter. Lydia Oldknow netted her first of the game, making the game score 10-4. 

The final quarter of the game was another defensive-heavy quarter for the Sun Devils. Sophomore Teagan Ng scored her first of the game 11 minutes in, making the score 14-5. Oldknow scored her second goal of the game in the last minute and then her third with one second left on the clock, making the final score of the game 16-7.

  • Sophomore Jordyn Behar netted her first two collegiate goals.
  • Sophomore Lydia Oldknow's three goals moved her to first on the team in goals scored (27).
  • Graduate Katie Haley scored her second goal in three games.

Sun Devil Lacrosse travels to the Bay Area to continue Pac-12 play against Stanford (5-3, 1-0 Pac-12). The game is slated for 1 pm PST/AZT on Saturday, March 30th. The game will be aired on Pac-12 Bay Area.
