TEMPE – Sun Devil Men's Basketball took down No. 21 Washington State on Saturday night at Desert Financial Arena.

Arizona State (14-14, 8-9) pulled off an impressive 73-61 victory over the Top-25 Cougars (21-7, 12-5) who entered the game alone at the top of the Pac-12 standings. Head Coach Bobby Hurley's squad ended Washington State's eight-game win streak by putting forth a balanced and complete effort. ASU was in total control and led for nearly 36 minutes of the game behind the strength of a consistent defensive effort.

Four Sun Devils players reached double figures, led by Jose Perez who finished with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists. Sun Devil single-season steals leader Frankie Collins was all over the court defensively and added 14 points and six rebounds. Alonzo Gaffney put up 11 points as well as six rebounds and two blocks, posting a +20 on the night. Adam Miller made critical shots down the stretch, with eight of his 12 points coming in the second half.

Arizona State Head Coach Bobby Hurley:
Opening Statement:
"I thought this was possibly the best defense we have played this season. They are a handful around the basket with (Issac) Jones, guys who can shoot, and playmakers. They are a really good team and Kyle Smith has done a phenomenal job with Washington State. They are one of the great stories in college basketball this year, but our defense was up to the challenge tonight and we stepped up in that regard."

On coming into the game prepared after a tough loss
"It comes back to our defense and guarding with purpose and energy. We were flying around, in the right spots, and getting deflections. We can be pretty dynamic getting out into the open court and it leads to our offense. Washington State was stuck on four points for a long time, we started the game fast and sat down and defended them well."

On Frankie Collins' Performance
"I thought Frankie was terrific at both ends of the floor. He likes the challenge of playing some of the better point guards in the league so that certainly motivated him. He played strong and made plays out there and had a usual performance that you can count on from him. Overall, if we are going to have success the rest of the way, we aren't going to do it through one guy. Anytime we seem to win, there are four or five guys in double figures, and that showed tonight."

Arizona State Forward Jose Perez
Opening Statement: Feelings towards fans sticking around after a tough loss against Washington
"It's impressive to see the fans coming out. It's about when you get hot for me. I've been in college for like seven years now; I did it at Gardner-Webb and won the league. We are in the same position where we need to win three games in three days and it's possible. Anything is possible when you get hot."

On playing together as a team
"We go on stretches where it doesn't go our way, the shots don't fall, and we get selfish. We are playing together and making the right plays. This game we did it for the majority of the game and now it's about doing it against Arizona. I haven't played here yet for one of those games, but I hear it's electric."

Arizona State Forward Bryant Selebangue
Opening Statement: Thoughts about the game
"Great game. You can't complain when you beat a ranked team. It was a great game. We knew what it was coming into the game and we prepared. We needed this one. We Lost our last home game, needed to bounce back, and now we need to get ready for Wednesday."

On the team's response from the loss on Thursday and having a spark coming into this game
"Yeah, coach has been talking about that a lot. 20 minutes each half and making sure we come out early and come out with energy. That's something we have been capitalizing more. Certain lineups that work more, certain rotations that work. That's something we have been figuring out over time and it's panning out."
