WACO, Texas – Sun Devil Soccer fell behind Baylor in the 11th minute on Thursday and never recovered in a 4-0 loss in Big 12 play at Betty Lou Mays Field.
Arizona State (7-4-3, 2-4-1 Big 12) trailed quickly as Baylor (7-5-3, 2-3-2 Big 12) took the advantage when a corner kick deflected off an ASU defender's head and into the goal for a 1-0 Bears lead. The home side doubled its advantage in the 21st minute with a goal from Ashley Merrill.
After the teams returned to the field for the second half, Baylor quickly struck again on a goal by Hannah Augustyn in the 49th minute. The Bears capped the win when Callie Conrad scored in the 87th minute.
The Sun Devils had opportunities in the game, finishing with a 17-16 edge in shots and putting nine of those attempts on goal. Kierra Blundell totaled eight shots with five on target while Keri Matthews added four shots and two on frame. Despite the chances, Baylor keeper Azul Alvarez kept ASU off the scoreboard.
Having lost consecutive games for the first time this season, ASU now heads to Fort Worth, Texas, where they will face No. 12 TCU on Sunday at 11 a.m. AZT.
