TEMPE – Since arriving in Tempe last year, Ilya Kharun was one of the most impactful freshmen in the country and a key contributor to the Sun Devil men's swim & dive team winning its first national championship. Kharun claimed the 200y fly individual title and became a six-time Pac-12 champion last year.
The Canadian also set the school records in the 100y fly (44.33) and the 200 fly, and was part of the 400y medley relay team that set the NCAA record (2:57.32) to solidify the team's first national championship. In addition, he became an Olympian representing his home country of Canada and claimed two bronze medals, one in the 200m fly and the 100m fly.
October 4th is the first of seven chances Sun Devil fans can watch the bronze medalist at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center as the maroon and gold take on UNLV at 6 p.m. AZT.
RETURNING TO CAMPUS WITH MEDALS
Getting an Olympic medal and then coming back to school to compete at the NCAA level is pretty awesome. Arizona State's Ilya Kharun won two bronze medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics, a part of a small group of Paris hardware earners who now will attempt to win some NCAA championships. Check out the list below that Ilya is a part of.
