TORONTO - Canada Basketball and the Canadian Olympic Committee have announced the roster of Team Canada men's basketball athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Sun Devil Men's Basketball's Luguentz Dort has earned a spot on Team Canada and will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He is one of 12 players selected to represent his country on Canada's Senior National Team.
Dort is the lone Sun Devil Men's Basketball player at the 2024 Olympics. It is the eighth time a Sun Devil Men's Basketball player has represented their country at an Olympic games. Dort is the first representative in men's basketball from Arizona State since Ike Diogu made his second of two appearances with the Nigerian National Team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Arizona State Men's Basketball's Olympic history dates back to 1964, when legendary figure Joe Caldwell represented Team USA in Tokyo. Caldwell and the Americans took home the Gold Medal, defeating the Soviet Union in one of the most highly-anticipated international matchups in the history of the sport. Caldwell is not the only Sun Devil to have won a Gold Medal for Team USA, as James Harden also accomplished the feat at the 2012 London Olympics.
Dort becomes the Sun Devil Men's Basketball program's first representative of Canada at an Olympic games. ASU has previously landed players on the United States, Great Britain, Nigeria, and Australia National Teams. Dort is the 17th individual from Sun Devil Athletics to ever represent Canada at an Olympic games. He will be one of two Canadians from ASU at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, joined by current Sun Devil swimmer sophomore Ilya Kharun.
