STANFORD, Calif. – Deborah Jones gave Sun Devil softball a chance at No. 8 Stanford in the series finale, but it wouldn't be enough in a 1-0 loss to end the weekend.
Jones pitched her second complete game of the weekend. She held Stanford (31-6, 11-1 Pac-12) to just four hits while striking out six. She forced the Cardinal into eight runners left on base, including the bases loaded in the first inning. Her fifth strikeout of the game, which opened the bottom of the fifth, was the 300th of her career.
Audrey LeClair and Sara Kinch each had two hits for Arizona State (18-18, 2-10 Pac-12). ASU had seven hits in total but went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position to strand eight runners on base. The Sun Devils had runners at first and third in the second and seventh innings but were unable to come up with a timely hit.
ASU returns to Farrington Stadium next weekend to start the span of three of the final four Pac-12 series at home. The opener against Utah is on Friday at 6 p.m.
