STANFORD, Calif. – Sun Devil softball dropped the opener of its three-game series with No. 8 Stanford 4-0 on Friday night at Smith Family Stadium.

Arizona State (18-16, 2-8 Pac-12) had just two infield singles off the nation's leader in WHIP, NiJaree Canady of Stanford (20-6, 9-1). ASU starter Deborah Jones held the Cardinal to just four hits in her second complete game of the season.

Stanford took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning behind a two-run home run from Ava Gall. The Cardinal added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the final margin.
