BOULDER– Arizona State lacrosse (7-7, 2-3) opened their three-game road trip against Pac-12 foe, No. 20 Colorado (9-4, 4-1). Despite a hot start scoring three goals in their first three possessions, the Sun Devils eventually fell 20-12 in Boulder.
The road trip continues with the team taking on No. 13 University of Denver on Sunday, April 14 at noon MST. DU marks the seventh ranked opponent that ASU will face this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Sun Devils scored on their first three possessions of the game thanks to Shannon Urey, Lindsey Dean, and Anna Thornton to lead 3-0. Colorado went on a 4-1 run after the early Sun Devil scoring, and it was a 4-4 game. Mina Scott found the net with 20 seconds remaining and ASU led 5-4 after one.
Colorado scored first in the second quarter to tie the game at five. Three more goals from CU allowed the Buffaloes to take the lead and it was an 8-5 game. Despite a five-goal first quarter from ASU, a scoreless second allowed the Buffs to lead 8-5 at the half.
Teagan Ng was the sixth ASU goal scorer after getting on the board with a free position goal to open the third quarter, but CU quickly followed with a goal of their own and the deficit remained three in the 9-6 game. Two more goals from the home team had CU in double digits and it was 11-6. Scott's and Ng's second goals pulled ASU back 11-8. The two teams traded goals and it was 12-9 at the end of three quarters.
Lydia Oldknow scored her first goal of the game in the final frame to pull ASU within two goals. The Buffs pushed the lead back to four with two goals and it was a 14-10 game. Thornton's second goal pulled ASU within 14-11. The teams traded goals again and it was a 15-12 Buffs lead. The Buffaloes closed out the game on a 5-0 run and the 20-12 score was final.
