Women's Tennis to Host WSU and Washington

TEMPE, Ariz.- After being off the past two weeks, No. 38 Sun Devil Women's Tennis (9-8, 1-5 Pac-12) is back in action and will host two Pac-12  matches against Washington State (Friday at 1:30 p.m. AZT) and No. 25 Washington (Saturday at 12 p.m. AZT). Fans can follow along with the action via live stats, which will be made available for both matches.
 

SUN DEVIL NOTABLES

• The Sun Devils continue to stack the latest team, singles and doubles polls. In the latest ITA rankings, the Sun Devils were listed at No. 38 in the nation, Giulia Morlet is No. 79 in singles and Emilija Tverijonaite is No. 87 in singles. The duo of Patricija Spaka/Chelsea Fontenel are currently ranked No. 34.
• Tverijonaite collected her team-leading ninth singles victory against Oregon on March 22.  Patricija Spaka has the second-most singles wins with seven, which she tallied during the NAU match.
• The duo of Chelsea Fontenel/Spaka lead the team with nine doubles wins so far this season.
• Chasing 600: Head coach Sheila McInerney picked up her 583rd career win in her 40th season with the Sun Devils after her team's 4-0 victory over Oregon.

PREVIEWING WASHINGTON STATE (10-6, 1-4 Pac-12)

• The Cougars are coming off a loss to Oregon. Washington State's first Pac-12 win was a 4-2 win against Colorado on March 17.
• Washington State is 1-4 against ranked opponents this season with a win over then-No. 51 Colorado.
• The Cougars singles team leader is FIfa Kumhom who stands at 19-4 on the season while Elyse Tse leads their doubles record at 14-5.
• Last season, the Cougars finished with a 7-15 overall record and fell to USC in the first round in the Pac-12 tournament.

 
PREVIEWING NO. 25 WASHINGTON (14-6, 3-2 Pac-12)

• The Huskies crept into the #25 position in the latest ITA rankings after winning their last 4 matches, including three Pac-12 wins over Colorado, Utah, and Oregon.
• Washington qualified for the NCAA tournament last year, advancing to the second round before being falling to Oklahoma.
• The Huskies are 1-6 against ranked opponents, with their lone win coming against San Diego.
• Washington is led in singles play by Alexia Jacobs, who has a 17-5 record. And in doubles, the Huskies are propelled by the team of Alexia Jacobs and Astrid Olson, who boast a 13-7 record.

 
FOUR DECADES OF COACH MAC
Sheila McInerney is in year 40 at Arizona State. Only two current Pac-12 coaches have been at their job longer and fourth on the list is Hall of Famer Tara VanDerveer, the head basketball coach with the most wins in college basketball history.
 
McInerney recently coached in her 925th career game as the Sun Devils' head coach against No. 30 Baylor on March 5.
 
In January, McInerney guided the Sun Devils to a 7-0 win over UC Davis, securing the 575th win of her career. She currently owns a career record of 582-346 (.627).
