NASHVILLE– Arizona State lacrosse (3-4) could not hang on in the 13-11 loss to Vanderbilt (4-2) after the Commodores showed a late surge with a five-goal fourth quarter. Freshman Anna Viglione netted the first goal of her career in the loss.

As one of the best teams in the NCAA in clears, the Sun Devils were a perfect 12-for-12 in clears today and improved their third-best NCAA mark to 96.8% on the year (90/93).

How it Happened:
The Sun Devils had a strong defensive stand in the first quarter, allowing just one Vanderbilt goal, which came in the first five minutes of the game. ASU on the other hand tacked on four goals from four goal scorers. Anna Thornton, Lydia Oldknow, and Shannon Urey each netted a free position goal while Bella Ingrao scored a natural goal. The ASU lead was 4-1 after one.

Ingrao scored the first goal of the second quarter after a man-up scenario and ASU's lead was four. Oldknow netted her second goal of the game, but the home team put up four goals in the frame allowing just two and the roles were reversed. Vandy's final goal of the quarter came with 35 seconds on the clock and made it a one goal game at the half, 6-5 in ASU's favor.

Vanderbilt tied the game at six with a man-up free position goal to open the third quarter. Mina Scott scored her first goal of the day in the third quarter to put ASU back in front 7-6. Freshman Anna Viglione scored the first goal of her career, but a free position goal for Vandy kept the ASU lead at one. Katie Haley scored what looked to be the final goal of the frame, but Vanderbilt beat the buzzer to end the third trailing by one goal.

The Commodores took the lead for the first time today after two goals to open the fourth quarter. Oldknow evened it back up at 10 with her third goal of the game. The teams traded goals again, this time Scott tacking on ASU's goal. Vandy scored two straight goals to lead by two with 1:44 on the clock. The score stood final in the loss.
