TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 24 Arizona State Women's Tennis (5-2) kicked off their four-match homestand with a 4-0 victory over Arkansas (3-3) on Saturday at Whiteman Tennis Center.
"Their doubles came out really aggressive and handled it really well," head coach Sheila McInerney said of the match with the Razorbacks. "I think after we won the doubles point, our kids were a little bit more consistent."
ASU took a 1-0 lead against the Razorbacks after winning the best-of-three opening doubles match. The tandem of senior Marianna Argyrokastriti and freshman Emilija Tverijonaite put the Sun Devils on the board with their 6-4 victory on court three. Sophomore Chelsea Fontenel and junior Patricija Spaka won their team-high fifth doubles match of the season by a score of 6-4 on court one to clinch the doubles point for the Sun Devils.
In singles, ASU won their first three matches to complete the sweep against Arkansas. Senior Giulia Morlet won the decisive fourth point, 7-5, 6-1, to clinch the victory on court one. Before that, Spaka put the Sun Devils ahead 3-0, winning her court six match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
