TEMPE– Sun Devil Lacrosse is set to open season number seven with a pair of games this weekend at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium. The season opener will take place against Xavier on Friday, February 9th at 3:00 pm MST, and will be broadcast via ASU Live Stream-2The second matchup against Niagara is scheduled for Sunday, February 11th at 9:30 am MST, and will be viewable via ASU Live Stream

The two games this weekend opens a nine-game home slate, after ASU hosted just six games in Tempe last season. 

The Sun Devils come off of a 6-13 2023 campaign that ended in the second round of the Pac-12 Championships during Taryn VanThof's first year as head coach. Last week it was announced that ASU opened the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll in fourth place. 

Scouting the opponents: 
Xavier: The Sun Devils will play in their first-ever game against Xavier, as the two teams have not met before. The Musketeers opened up at seventh in the Big East Preseason Poll. Last season, Xavier had a record of 4-10, including wins over Eastern Michigan and Presbyterian.

Niagara: Sunday is also the first meet between the Sun Devils and the Purple Eagles. Last season, Niagara compiled a 12-7 record and picked up notable wins over Oregon and Delaware. The Purple Eagles made it to the MAAC Semifinals last season. The MAAC announced that Niagara's very own, Rachel Crane, was named the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. 

Notable Devils:
Teagan Ng- As a freshman, Ng made a massive impact on the team last season. She started in all 18 games for the Sun Devils last season, scoring 29 goals and five assists. After leading the freshmen in the Pac-12 in goals, she was named Pac-12 Lacrosse Freshman of the Year. 

Shannon Urey- Urey is a graduate transfer from Mercer University, and is the reigning Big South Offensive Player of the Year. In 20023, Urey tallied 83 goals at Mercer last season, 50 more than the next-highest scorer.

Lindsey Dean- The fifth year attacker joined the Sun Devils for her final collegiate season, and will play her first game in the Maroon and Gold this weekend. Dean attended undergrad at Drexel University and totaled 34 games played in three seasons featuring 16 goals, six assists and 11 ground balls.

Katie Haley- Haley is a grad transfer from the University of Colorado, and will play alongside her sister, Annie Haley, this season. The duo is the third pair of sisters on the team joining Bella and Gigi Gaspar, and Maddie and McKenna Riley. During her four years in Boulder, she accumulated eight goals, eight caused turnovers, 11 points, 14 ground balls and 30 draw controls.
